Under our guidance, you’ll train and learn our business in the restaurant — not a classroom —
because the best way to learn our system is to experience it.

You’ll Learn By Doing

As a Waffle House manager, you’ll learn the job by doing the job. With this in mind, you will complete a 9-12 week hands-on, in-store training program. Paired with a Training Unit Manager, you will work their schedule, learning skills in four areas:

  1. Service and Production
  2. The Waffle House Brand
    of Leadership & Management
  3. Food Safety
  4. Case Studies on restaurant situations

You’ll also attend a monthly Trainee Day with senior managers to learn more about Waffle House operations.

After initial training you will attend Waffle House University at the corporate office in Norcross, Georgia. “WHU” (pronounced “Wooh”) is three days of classroom instruction with senior operations management and corporate staff.

After WHU, you will usually work in different restaurants before being assigned your own.

For every stage of your career, Waffle House has a program to help you learn and grow:

Newcomers Program

First-year Unit Managers meet with their senior management to discuss the unique challenges
everyone faces in their first year.

Coach’s Clinic

All managers attend a Coach’s Clinic where they learn more about being an effective manager and a leader.

Leadership Development Series

This series addresses special topics to develop our
future leaders.

Personal Development

Every manager at Waffle House, from a trainee up to our CEO, has a personal development goal aimed at making them a more effective leader. The goals are developed with the aid of up-line management, peers and reports.
