Area People Director (APD)
Work Environment
The purpose of the Area People Director is to support the Area Vice President in the hiring, training, recruitment, and retention of hourly and management employees. Area People Directors manage Human Resource Specialists. The APD will spend 80% of the time in the field and 20% in the corporate office or their home office. Generally, the APD will work 80% of the time on Monday - Friday and 20% of the time on nights, weekends, and holidays. The APD will report to either an Area Vice President or Senior Vice President depending on market geographic needs with accountability through the VP of People Department.
Major Job Responsibilities & Tasks
Recruitment/Hiring: Develop recruitment programs that promote employment opportunities and diversity at Waffle House. Develop recruitment strategies that achieve required staffing levels. Develop and maintain professional relationships with local schools, colleges and organizations as a source to generate qualified applicants. Screens, interviews and refers qualified applicants. Maintains records on recruitment efforts as required.
Training: Manages various training programs for hourly associates, manager trainees and unit managers. Identifies and implements training needs for hourly associates, unit managers, manager trainees.
Retention: Develop and implement recognition initiatives to increase the retention of unit managers and hourly associates.
Managing: Train, direct, discipline, interview, hire, and develop Human Resources Specialists. Make recommendations to Operations Management on the hiring and disciplining of hourly associates and managers.
Case Mgmt: Investigate associate complaints regarding company policies and relate findings to Legal Department.

Human Resource Specialist
(HRS)
Work Environment
The Human Resource Specialist is primarily
responsible for identifying community resources for
applicant referrals and recruiting qualified applicants for
unit operations. In addition the HRS will function as a
direct marketing representative for their assigned Division.
Major Job Responsibilities & Tasks
The Human Resource
Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing a
community-based recruitment and Associate retention
program. The HRS s expected to identify, develop and
promote relationships within the community for the purpose
of recruiting the largest possible pool of applicant
referrals for vacant positions in unit operations.
Duties include:
(1) Identifying potential community based sources for
applicant referrals
(2) Networking with various community referral
sources
(3) Developing recruitment programs that promote
opportunities at Waffle House
(4) Screening potential job applicants for vacant
positions;
(5) Conduct new hire orientation and 2 1/2 day basic
training session;
(6) Help in developing programs designed to retain
newly hired unit Associates
(7) Other administrative duties
Skills:
This position requires strong written and verbal communication
skills in order to communicate effectively with applicants and
community-based applicant referral sources. The HRS should be
familiar with Waffle House Operations, including the general job
requirements for hourly positions in unit operations. Moderate
travel with occasional overnight travel required.
Due to the nature of the our business being open 24 hours a day,
seven days a week, the workforce in unit operations is highly
transient. As a result, the HRS can expect that each unit of
the Division will have ongoing, consistent staffing
requirements. The HRS will be expected to continually develop
new sources of applicant referrals to ensure that unit staffing
needs can be satisfied on an ongoing basis.
